ORBITAPE

TERMS OF USE · LAST UPDATED 28 AUGUST 2026

ORBITAPE is free, has no accounts and no ads. These terms say what it promises, what it does not, and who is responsible for the sound coming out of your speaker.

Using the app means you accept them. They are short on purpose.

What ORBITAPE is

ORBITAPE is a sound player. It does two separate things and the difference matters:

What ORBITAPE does not promise

The app is provided as it is. There is no uptime promise, no promise that a particular station will be there tomorrow, and no promise that a recording will keep playing. Stations go offline, change addresses and close down; when that happens ORBITAPE moves on to the next one.

Nothing here is a warranty, and liability is limited to what the law does not allow to be excluded.

Who is responsible for the content

Each station is responsible for what it broadcasts.

ORBITAPE does not produce, select, edit or moderate the audio inside a live stream. A station may play anything at any moment and no one can know in advance what that will be. If something you hear on a station concerns you, the station is the right address — and if you tell me, I will remove it from the list.

Recording

The record button captures your screen together with the sound. It runs entirely on your device; nothing is uploaded and I never see it.

Live radio is never recorded.

If a live station starts while a recording is running, the recording stops and the reason appears on screen. What was already captured is kept — only the live part is refused. This is a rule inside the app, not a setting you can turn off.

What you do with a recording afterwards is up to you and subject to the licence of whatever it contains. Archive recordings carry a Creative Commons licence, shown on screen; most of them require you to name the artist and the licence if you share it.

Fair use of the app

Do not use ORBITAPE to redistribute the streams it opens, to strip attribution from recordings, or to build a service on top of it that does either. Do not try to overload the sources it depends on.

If you own a recording or run a station

Write to hello@orbitape.app and it comes out of the list. You do not need to explain yourself or prove anything first — removal happens on request, and any question can be sorted out afterwards.

Turkey — KVKK

For users in Turkey, the following is the notice required under Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data (KVKK).

ItemAnswer
Data controllerThe person who runs ORBITAPE, reachable at hello@orbitape.app
Personal data processedNone. No account, no profile, no identifier, no analytics. Favourites, the last channel and the camera level stay in your own browser and are never sent anywhere.
Camera and microphoneUsed only while you are recording, only on your device, never transmitted.
PurposeServing the page and protecting it from abuse. Nothing else.
Legal groundLegitimate interest under art. 5/2(f), limited to the server logs described below.
Transfer abroadThe site is served by Cloudflare and the audio comes from the stations and archives listed in the privacy policy. Your request necessarily reaches them, as it would with any website.
RetentionI keep nothing. Cloudflare keeps standard request logs under its own policy.

Under art. 11 you may ask whether data about you is processed, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object. Since ORBITAPE holds nothing, the honest answer to most of these will be that there is nothing to show — but write and you will get that answer in writing.

Changes

If these terms change, the date at the top changes with them. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the honest signal.
